Postmodernism is a difficult philosophy to understand because it questions many basic concepts in our world. Leaving a feeling of disorientation in the within anyone who follows it. The main characters both of these works feel a sense of disorientation in their person struggles with balancing their personal and social responsibilities. Each character is forced to take a side person responsibilities or social responsibilities, modernism or postmodernism. In the end each character takes a different perspective on which viewpoint they want to follow in their lives. Mookie chooses the side of the community, while the Invisible Man chooses himself. Each story leaves the reader or viewer asking the same question, which I too will leave you with, what is really more important upholding your social or personal responsibilities.
