Postmodernism is a difficult philosophy to understand because it
questions many basic concepts in our world. Leaving a feeling of disorientation
in the within anyone who follows it. The main characters both of these works
feel a sense of disorientation in their person struggles with balancing their
personal and social responsibilities. Each character is forced to take a side
person responsibilities or social responsibilities, modernism or postmodernism.
In the end each character takes a different perspective on which viewpoint they
want to follow in their lives. Mookie chooses the side of the community, while
the Invisible Man chooses himself. Each story leaves the reader or viewer
asking the same question, which I too will leave you with, what is really more
important upholding your social or personal responsibilities.
